The US supreme court has rejected an appeal by a Canadian-born former Guantánamo detainee who was seeking to wipe away his war crimes convictions, including for killing a US soldier in Afghanistan.

Omar Khadr was 15 when he was captured by US troops following a firefight at a suspected al-Qaida compound in Afghanistan that resulted in the death of an American special forces medic, the US army Sgt Christopher Speer. The first-of-its-kind, comprehensive picture of PFAS levels for the basin, which holds nearly 95% of the nation’s freshwater, also reveals that precipitation is probably a major contributor to the lakes’ contamination.
