Canada Emergency Wage Subsidy, Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy and Lockdown Support
The government is proposing to further extend the wage subsidy program until June 2021 and implement other enhancements to the program to better respond to the evolving economic and health situation. These proposed changes will make the program more flexible and more generous, and ensure that the program provides continued support to employers and meets the needs of the health and economic situation as it evolves.
On October 9, the government proposed new targeted, direct supports for businesses, non-profits and charities facing ongoing economic challenges amidst the second wave of the COVID-19 pandemic. For organizations significantly affected by a mandatory federal, provincial, or municipal public health order, the government proposed a top-up under the new Canada Emergency Rent Subsidy to provide additional support while they face lockdowns.
